So posting on here seems to be a yearly event!
Anyhow. Had a two person show with Kaitlin Beckett called Post Apocalypse. Its all about what the world would look like if the human world ended in the 30's.
This was allot of fun to work on and the show looked great in the end (Thanks Melika for hanging the show!).

Arg, where is the time going? Its already October. Ive now been in Melbourne a full year! Soo much has happened in that year, Im hoping whats left of the year will be less stressful but still productive.

So even though I swore Id never have another solo after Telos, here I am doing it all over again and almost exactly a year later! hah.

Anyhow, Oct 8 at BSG gallery I'll be having my second solo ; Evanidus. Really been working hard on this one and there will be an installation and a sculpture of a bear. And some big pieces as well.

Im finally excited about the show, Im mostly happy with the pieces and after all glad I pushed myself to do it.

I will also be at finders keepers markets in Melbourne on the 9th and 10th (yes the weekend after my show!). Some Friends and I have put together a stall and we'll have badges, prints, small originals etc. I'll also have some silver jewelry there. I'll have to post pics later this arvo.

So yeah, If you're in the area come and check them out! Should be fun.

Post Telos

Think Im just gonna do this in one fell swoop so I can start updating normally.

Post Telos had been an immensely messed up and busy time. I moved yet again, I adopted a kitty (Gizmo)Worked my ass off at work, went through some messed up family stuf and tried coming to terms with the emotional repercussions of all that and came out being a nihilist. Had alot of art type stuff at the beginning of the year and was in a number of group shows, but then pretty much just stopped around March. More recently the painting has been picking up as there a new shows coming up and Im more in love with painting than ever, and more comfortable with being in love with it, if that makes sense. Ive come to certain realisations about the amount of stress and effort i was putting into my day job and the people there; These have made my life there a bit mixed but Im valuing the parts that are worth valuing, this alone has freed up my mind and energy enough to allow me to actually put paint to timber.

And most recently I had a 2 week holiday over in New Zealand, a busy holiday, not exactly relaxing, but fantastic! spent most of it with my dad just driving round the south island, and of course I did some skiing in their beautiful powder snow.

Now Im preparing for another solo in 2 months (nearly a year on and after I vowed never to have a solo again in my life), and a number of other shows in between or soon after. Im very excited about the things I'll be working on in the comming months, and very interested to see where life goes now and less caught up in where I think it SHOULD go.

SO, Ive rightly been told off for not updateing this thing. Time for a lil discipline.

I'll start by making a few posts over the next week with highlights of the last year. And then will continue to update with lots of news and INTERESTING things. Maybe

Lets start it off with a very breif look at 'Telos'

Mixed feelings about the show itself but had some awesome support which Considering it was a frickin freezing THURSDAY night and I had only just moved to melbourne is pretty much all that kept me mostly sane. Over all a very good learning exercise.

Below are a couple shots of the show after it was rehung by Melika, she did a great job while sick as a dog and totally sorted out my lack of hanging skilz. Thanks!

Tomorrow night at 696 from 6-9pm will be my first solo show. details in the previous post.
So busy, no sleep, terrified! but so so glad i had this chance to sit down and paint and put them all together in one room :)

On another more awesome note, Jeff Soto was in Melbourne for semi permanent and did a book signing along with Tara McPherson. I gathered up some pennies to go and buy his book to sign and he didn't just sign it, he drew an awesome lil pic too! I was so nervous and sleep deprived I didn't really say much, but he seemed like a pretty laid back guy, which makes for a nice change. Unfortunately i didn't have enough cash to get something from Tara too... kickin myself for that :( But it was really good to see successful artists who aren't jerks...really inspired me

Telos- solo show

gee i neglect this thing, I dont think anyone even reads it now. But oh wells!

I have a small solo show in a month at the lovely 696 in Melbourne. My first ever and Im about to die of nerves! Im in Melbourne, but have been too busy to enjoy it :( BUT Im finally getting some painting done.

Bellow is the flyer. I would love for you all to come. I dont know anyone in Melbourne and am terrified there will be only me and the crickets ;) So come along for a few drinks, to talk or not talk and look and some pretty pictures :D

The opening night is October thursday 15 from 6-9pm. The show runs 14-28 october.

It will be a series of Environmentally concious works exploring the idea of Telos (which is the end purpose of each thing) in relation to how humans interact with the environment. All the works are done on either reclaimed timber or timber sourced from renewable sources. Also 5% of sale will be going to the Wilderness society.

Sort of....

Im going to Melbourne in what will likely be a temporary move, to see if i like it and if things work out. And if i dont like it or if things dont go to plan or even if something else happens (travel always bekons) then i move on.

But from now till at least the end of the year I will be a Melbournite and i can at least claim to have realised ONE of my meager highschool wishes. Even if its only for a few months ;)

I will also be having a solo show at 696, 14th to 28th oct. More info and paintings to come :)

I missed out on the subimssions deadline last year by like a week, and almost did it again this year too! I didnt hold much hope cos man the work in there is aweome. but WOW!

And a big CONGRATS too to the other folks who go in, so many people I met last year are in it and Im so happy for them, I wont name them so I dont ruin the surprise, but congrats so much :D

We all know about the Victorian bushfires. But how many of us think about the damage done to wildlife in the area? Maybe youve seen the footage of the Koala being given water by firemen. That guy was lucky, so many many more are serioiusly injured. I want to be able to help them out as much as I can. But being unemployed doesnt really help much.

What Ive been up to... Fishtankery!

I have a bit too much time on my hands. Lots of time for thinking, lots of time for doing. But most of my time is spent doing neither.
However, I have got a few things done. Firstly I made a fishtank!
All of it, Cut the timber, cut the glass, glued it hammered it painted it....how proud am I :D Next time though I'll spray paint it so that its nice and smooth.

Ive also been painting a bit, but not finishing much. Plus Ive sewn about 20 items of various things to sell in an Etsy store I will hopefully get around to putting up. So stay tuned for that....

Coming up!!! MASSIVE ART SALE.... I need to sell off a bunch of my stuff to gather a little dough, so I'll be letting them go at what I think are pretty low prices, will post about that soon

And I love it!....and hate it.... Its such a contradiction this place. Such extreme comercialismm then a shrine or temple round every corner....hhmmm.

Im in madrid at the moment, and leave for japan tomorrow.
Morocco was fantastic, exceeded my expectations. Though to be honest I dont really know what I was expecting. But it was so varied, the landscapes, the people, everything. We even played in snow! how funny is that.
But after 2 weeks, im keen to get moving. Im really looking forward to having a big bowl of noodle soup! yum
Im also keen as ever to get painting again.
Ive met alot of interesting people on this trip. My thoughts and expectations about my future are challenged daily. I still dont really know what I want to to, but i do know that I love learning, I love traveling, and i love paintiing.....its a start ;p

Luxembourg was gorgeous. The little I saw of it. Feeling drained at the moment. I want to come back to germany. The 2 hour train trip I took to get to frankfurt was stunning. beautiful houses and landscape. Im bored of cities. I want to be on mountain tops. I dont want to hear cars and trains and buses and people anymore. Give me the wind and the birds and the silence. My mind is going a mile a minute, but I dont know where its going.

Seriously, it was just beyond words. a whole week on a sailing ship (a schooner) no phone no internet no connection at all with the outside world. just us on the boat and the extreme evironment outside. The people on board were simply amazing, the dynamic of them all fantastic. I truely enjoyed myself more than I thought was possible.

No polar bears :( but we did see northern lights which was just awesome. It feels like a dream now, but one I hope i'll always remember.

I barely even did any drawing, I was too busy enjoying myself.

Now Im in luxembourg and shall soon be in morocco. Looking forward to the amazing contrast.

have you seen the value of the aussie dollar lately!! Im so totally screwed.
good thing im not traveling in the states though, just a few months ago we werent far from parity, but now! there goes any future art purchases from there :(
not that I coud afford to for like THE REST OF MY LIFE after this trip. The cost of everythig for me has just increased significantly, Im already on an extremely tight budget, so this is baaad news. thank god all the trips and flights are paid for. From now on its toast for breaky and 2min noodles for dinner. I may have to take to busking for my dinner lol.

Apart from that, Ive been in a really good mood since my last post. Ive changed hostels to a nice secure one that also serves massive breakfast (so I stock up there to last me the day) but of course its also more expensive. price to pay for peace of mind.
Im off to Bergen tomorrow for a few days then on up to svalbard!!! Im really looking forward to this and totally freaking out too, its gona be sooo cold. its already -3 there. I hope the weather is alright ad that I get to see the polar lights.

...I can feel that cold thats been sitting in the back of my head since I left really start to take root. :(

They turned out to be canadian redneck fucks....and as annoying as they were Id gladly take that 18 bed room back rather than be in the place I am now. Its only 8 bed, also a mixed dorm. However this place has a really unsafe feeling abuot it. I mean the reception is nice and so are the rooms, but (and god how i hate saying this) there are immigrents everywhere. Which is fine! but the way they gang together gives off a really unsafe feeling. They hang around at the entry of the hostel and harrass people. and Ive heard stories that they come in at night trying to find unlocked doors T.T

So so far my impression of Oslo is not so great. there are major roadworks everwhere, a weird feeling of hostility in the air and Im getting a frekin cold! 4 nights is too long in this place :( and here I thought my trip was looking up.

Gorgeous weather today, literally not a cloud in the sky (though it was colder for it). Its amazing what a few hours of decent sleep and a clear day can do to improve a mood.
S'not all good though, Im staying in a hostel.....16 bed MIXED dorm!. Dumb move. Im one of 2 girls in it and most of the others are american redneck fucks. Arrogant males with the foulest mouths Ive heard in a long time. Constantly bragging about the chicks theyve had. all are trying to get one back to the hostel. I doubt their chances but it wouldnt be the first time Ive been in a dorm trying to ignore the huff huffs and squeak squeaks.
Lame. really really lame.

So far there seems to be an aversion to having internet cafes with proper computers in them :s Theres just the screen with the computer behind a wall. which means theres no USB to plug into, which also means I cant upload any photos :( Not that Ive taken any outstand shots, but it might make these posts a bit more interesting.

tomorrow I finally leave for Helsinki.
Ive spent the last week doing some volunteer work at an exotic animal refuge It was great to see the work there and the animals. My fav of course were the lynxes and ocelots. Though I was really surprised by how small the Lynx is! Cant upload any photos at the moment :(

So its back to the hostel life for me. Im so very very glad to be leaving Britain though. And Im hoping like mad that Im gonna be warm enough in Scandinavia.

Also If any one is in Brisbane I have about 10 works up at KILN for their Illustrators show starting October 3. If anyone does go please get some piccies for me as I wont be there.

I remember now why i dont like London. its too damn big! too many people.
At the very last minute I decided not to take my eeepc with me, and now Im regretting it! Im not a technophile, it would just make things alot easier!(ie actually putting photos up, and maybe even having something to do in the evenings. But its probly better i didnt, cos I wouldve been paranoid about it getting damaged. At least thats what Im telling myself.le sigh

The weather is actually really nice here at the moment, just getting round in jeans and a shirt. Im sure that will change once i get to helsinki. Went to the london zoo today and it was quite depressing. Tis a rather old zoo, but they are upgrading it to improve the conditions of the animals. At least I finally got to see a serval!.
The Natural History Museum is awesome!
Im not really much of a gallery goer, but figure I should seeing as Im here. Picasso put it well "we have invented nothing new" all the amzing work and style Ive drooled over recently, its all been done before and how many of us actually realised it.
And wow! those 15th 16th century artists sure had some demons!

A week and a half and Im gone for 3 months!

I finished that piece that was making me yawn alot. The photo sucks as its really hard to get good shots of stuff behind glass (or in this case in between).

theres actually 3 layers of transparent paper with different parts of the drawing on them. And metal etched corner pieces. Next time I think I'll go with a different kind of paper, more transparent.

I think Im almost out of juice, the creative kind. Been so busy lately Im just exhausted. Bt its great too!

In exactly 1 month from now I'll be on a plane on my way to the UK, the start of my 3 month backpacking adventure. Hopefuly I'll survive as my health has not been too good and it gets worse with the cold (and of course I'll be traveling during autumn! seems Im chasing the cold round the world grr). Main destinations aside from london are Svalbard(-10 degrees!!!), Morrocco and Japan.
I'll be taking alot of paper and pencils because one of the main things Im looking forward to is just sketching alot! funny that I should be traveling around the world to sketch heh.

News Exciting/busy times!

Some updates.
Firstly, I'm in the upcoming BARI festival! I'm so happy about this. I'll have 4 maybe 5 works in it. 3 will be new works. 28-31 august

Also I shall be taking part in a smaller group exhibition also at KILN called ' The Illustrators' on 3rd of October. 10 artists with between 5 and 10 works each. This is also very exciting for me. Unfortunately It's on while I'm overseas! Which means I have to have all the paintings sorted for before I go. I'll be including some of the older works to help add a few numbers so I wont go insane with all the painting. I tried to change my flights so I could be around for this one as it would be a really awesome experience, plus they'll have some industry professionals there too. But short or forking out another grand, my flights stay as they are.

So there has been and will continue to be alot of painting going on over the next 5 weeks.

Oh god! Just 5 weeks till I head off overseas for a 3 month backpacking adventure. Its gonna be tight. with the travel expenses and now health bills... well its back to living off 2 min noodles! If anyone has any tips on accommodation money savers for Norway and/or Japan, I'm all ears :)

a while ago I did a design for the Nani Bird project. When I did it I was really happy with it, but now it just looks plain. But either way, its now up on their site so you can download it, or some of the other really sawesome designs there, and make your own cute little Nani bird!. Ive been trying to teach myself web design. Its a hard enough thing to do on its own, but trying to squeeze it in between work, painting, moving and travel plans, its even harder.
But!
I finally managed to put together a fairly simple but (hopefully) not too bad a site.:

I have 1, thats a whole 1, single, new work finished.

And half a dozen half finished pieces. There are so many things in my head that I cant get anything done. grr. Though Ive been playing around with some watercolours and ink, with mixed results.:

The Garden is being quite bountiful at the moment. Im cropping bok choy, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, yellow beans, raddish, japanese turnip, cellery, and shallots. We had quite a few pumpkins too before, of all sorts. I have one butternut left. Yum!

I dunno what I'll do when/if I move. Im really starting to enjoy growing my own vegies. Plus the citrus trees will fruit next year. Would be a shame to miss that :(

sent off my 3 works for the exhibition at BSG today. Now its straight into more work for another exhibition.

Only 4 more months of work then I'm free! for a time anyway.
Been watching alot of series on dvd lately. My reception is shot and I'm not even gonna go into my Digital troubles. Pitty too, Star Portraits With Rolf Harris is on again, and I always miss it :(
Plus I'm so behind the news. I only find out about things by chance in office gossip at work. :(

I havent had much inspiration lately, but now have a few works underway. This one is for the Small Works exhibition at BSG in Melbourne. Havent thought of a title yet. Ive also made a frame for that I'll take a photo of soon.

I shall be having a little break to rest my hands. Dont have any exhibitions for a while so I'm just gonna focus on ideas for the future :)

PRINTS:

I have some Limited edition prints available for:
"The Hands that Hold" "From the Deep" and "Bare Heart"

These are limited to 15, there will be no more. They're archival prints on photorag with giclee protective spray. They will (if treated nicely) last more than a lifetime.
Print sizes: Hands and Deep are printed on A3 with the print size being 22 x 38cm. Bare is printed on A3 with a print size of 38 x 52cm.
They are hand signed, numbered and embossed by me. They are amazingly high quality prints, all done from high res scans professionally.

They're available from Gallery 696 in Melbourne http://www.696.com.au/ and also from me. The A3 prints are $65 and the A2 is $95(plus commission from the galleries) Post on here if your interested :)

EXPLANATION:

Ive been getting alot of comments lately about how different my work is now than is used to be.
Previously my work was more dark, less considered and pretty random. When i got back from traveling last year I was in a bad place in my mind and my work took a much darker turn. I was busy trying to find something to grasp onto and keep me going. Eventually it clicked to combine two of my passions. My love of art, and my love (and concern) for the Environment. Since then it has become my saviour. The thing I needed to help me heal after my travels and give me a goal and purpose for the future.

I know many people don't like the change in my work. Preferring the darker, more 'gothy' stuff. But this is me, this is what I need.

And that's my explanation.

Hello

I have just spent a long weekend catching up with my awesome friend Adam and went to the gallery 696 b'day bash www.myspace.com/gallery696 . I had the pieces bellow in as well as "Bare Heart" and "Gaze" and "The Hands That Hold". There was a really positive (and hopefully genuine) Response. I was quite blown away actually. PLus I was super nervous as I still have issues with crowds. But hey! It was stil heaps fun and an amazing break away from home. Thanks to Adam for his support and the girls at 696 and all the positive feedback, I feel humbled by it and positive for the future. :)

Some new work :

I will have a few pieces in the all girls show at 696 gallery in Melbourne! 7th March 7pm-9pm. Im taking a short break and shall be flying down there for it. That might seem silly, but I really need a little holiday from work, and this is as good a chance as any.
Those three girls will be in the exhibition and one other. The "Bare Heart" will be in another one at the same gallery later in the month, but more on that closer to the date

New blog for a new and hopefully better new year

I've never been big on the new years resolutions. But this year I've made a couple. One being to really try and push my painting, to improve my skill and see if I have any potential. The last few months have seen me doing a fair few paintings, and I think, I hope, that I have improved a fair bit.
